Sortilege (n.)
From the Latin sortilegium — sors (“lot, token of fate”) + legere (“to read, gather”).
-
An ancient art of divination — once practiced by casting lots, the sacred tokens used to let the divine speak through chance. In our time, the Tarot deck is the heir to these lots, each card a painted emissary of fate.
-
A ritual exchange between seeker and priestess, where the hand, guided by the unseen, selects the symbols through which truth will speak.
-
A threshold of sacred revelation — the moment when the veil parts, and the pattern of your path is glimpsed in the spread before you.
In this place, Sortilege is Tarot restored to its ancient dignity: not fortune-telling, but the holy act of listening as the divine answers through the turning of the cards.
